Mark Cuban Says Last Time Lakers Created Super Team it Didn’t Work

You can look at things from a lot of different angles and come to different conclusions. It is also easy to leave out important details when making statements to make your situation look better.

This would be a prime example of that.

Here is what Cuban had to say about the current Lakers “Super Team.
“The Lakers have done this before,” Cuban said. “Remember Gary Payton, Karl Malone and Kobe and Shaq were all together, and it didn’t work.
“It takes great chemistry, like coach (Rick Carlisle) alluded to, it takes guys wanting to be there — I don’t know if all their guys want to be there — it’s going to be interesting…
“Look, (the Lakers are) going to be a great team, but I remember when we made our run,” Cuban said. “We weren’t supposed to win any series. The Lakers were defending champs when we swept them, and they had everybody back. A lot of teams do a great job winning the summer, but I never get so antsy about what happens over the summer.”
If the only goal is to win a NBA Championship Cuban is correct, but he conveniently left out that the Lakers did make it to the NBA Finals (Mavs were n where to be seen), Karl Malone was hurt and Kobe’s rape case was the straw that broke the back between his relationship with Shaq.

Also Cuban fails to mention the last time the Lakers brought in a Center in his prime, it worked out pretty well.  Funny he mentioned a defending champ being swept, when his defending champion team went out in the 1st round via sweep.

Championships aren’t won on paper, so who knows how the Lakers will turn out, but I am pretty comfortable saying they will be better than the Mavs.

Cuban will have ring owner protection for the rest of his life, but doesn’t change the fact it is likely the Mavs were just a one hit wonder, while the Lakers have proven to stay making platinum tracks.
