Chargers hire Ken Whisenhunt as Offensive Coordinator

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the San Diego Chargers will hire Ken Whisenhunt as their offensive coordinator.

Whisenhut was the head coach for the Arizona Cardinals from 2007-2012. Whisenhut led the Cardinals to two division titles, including an appearance in Super Bowl XLIII.

From 2001-06 Whisenhut was on the Steelers coaching staff, first as a tight ends coach (2001-03), then serving as the Steelers offensive coordinator (2004-06).

Whisenhut called one of the most famous plays in Super Bowl history, a wide receiver reverse pass, Antwaan Randle El hooking up with Hines Ward, for the only touchdown pass thrown by a wide receiver in Super Bowl history.

Personally, I think this is a great hire for the Chargers. After Kurt Warner, Whisenhut never had a serviceable quarterback in Arizona, but his offenses have always succeeded when he’s had a competent quarterback. I think the Chargers offense can make huge strides with Mike McCoy as head coach and Whisenhut as the offensive coordinator.
