Jets linebacker allegedly assaulted wife with kitchen chair

Heading into the offseason as a 33-year-old on his last legs, Bryan Thomas already had a slim chance of finding significant work in 2013.

Those odds could further be diminished.

The Daily Record reports that Thomas was arrested back in October for assaulting his wife and illicit drug possession.

According to the report, the (former) Jets linebacker allegedly “pushed his wife with a kitchen chair, punched her in the stomach, and grabbed her by the neck, causing pain and marks on her body.”

Upon investigation, authorities discovered a Havannah hookah, ZigZag rolling papers, a box of Phillies Blunt Cigars, six small glass vials for marijuana, and an unlabeled bottle of Vicodin.

Thomas has been charged with aggravated assault (the chair counted as unlawful possession of a weapon) and possession of drug paraphernalia. He’s applied to a pre-trial intervention program in hopes of shaking the charges and avoiding league discipline.

An 11-year pro and former first round pick, Thomas has spent his entire career with the Jets, serving as a solid — if unspectacular — run-stopping ‘backer. Though he was Gang Green’s longest-tenured player, the team is not expected to re-sign Thomas, an unrestricted free agent.
