Randy Moss reportedly done in San Fran; end of the line?

While there’s doubt where Randy Moss will ultimately end up, his short-term plans aren’t as concrete.

A source tells ProFootballTalk.com that the 49ers are planning to “steer clear” of Moss, making it clear that the future Hall of Fame receiver won’t be back in a San Francisco uniform next season.

It’s not too surprising.

Moss posted less than pedestrian numbers (28 receptions) during his time with the Niners in 2012. Despite the team’s lack of healthy wideouts, Moss never appeared to be an integral part of the plans.
Surprisingly, Moss didn’t make a stink in regard to his usage — or lack thereof — but, according to PFT, “he didn’t like his role.”

Where the 36-year goes from here is anyone’s guess. There aren’t many teams who will be lining up to sign a fading receiver who’s completely lost his once-heralded separation ability.

Moss could (and likely will) continue playing in hopes of capturing that much-elusive Super Bowl ring, which would cap off a stellar career. However, there’s always the possibility that Moss realizes his time is up and bows out gracefully. Not a big possibility, but a possibility nonetheless.

We’ll be sure to keep tabs on his situation throughout the offseason.
