Atlanta Falcons Work Out Three Free Agent Wide Recievers

The Falcoholic has reported, based off a tweet from Saints beat writer, Larry Holder, that the Falcons are reportedly working out three free agent wide receivers in lieu of their 23-17 loss to New Orleans last week.

Roddy White has stated that he will need at least three more weeks before he can be his old self
again.

While Harry Douglas had an outstanding game last week, (4 catches, 93 yards) it appears that the Falcons want to bolster their receiving corps. if these reports are true.

The receivers in question are Courney Roby, Lavelle Hawkins and Mohamed Massaquoi.  Massaquoi was a standout at the University of Georgia, but has struggled to find his footing in the NFL.

Roby has only 25 receptions for 332 yards in four NFL seasons with the Titans and Saints.  He  didn't play in the NFL from 2007-2008 before landing in New Orleans in 2009.  He also didn't play at all from 2010-2011 before playing one more year for the Saints last season.

Lavelle Hawkins played five years for Tennessee, posting his best year in 2011 in which he had 47 receptions for 470 yards, and his lone career touchdown.  The rest of his career has been spent in a far more limited role, with him only totaling above 100 yards receiving once, which was in 2009 with 110.

Massaquoi was on a downward spiral in Cleveland in terms of his total yards receiving each year. He totaled 694 yards, 483 yards, 384 yards and 254 yards respectively over his four year career.

His numbers went down each year, and he had a pretty bad reception to target ratio (in 2009 he had 34 receptions on 94 targets), but it wasn't like he was playing with an all-pro quarterback during any of those seasons.

Maybe a change of scenery, and a much better quarterback could help the former Bulldog revitalize his career.

Still, none of these guys can even hope to have the statistical output of Roddy White, and that's probably not the point of working out these players.  It's more than likely to plug a hole or add depth until White can be 100%.  It may also mean that the White's injury is worse than expected, and he may not be 100% for the foreseeable future.

We'll keep you posted on this development as it unfolds.
