Report: Gruden To Get Ownership Stake In Browns If He Takes Vols Job

The rumor mill is churning right now in regards to Jon Gruden, and the longer this goes on, the more outrageous or insane the rumors get.

News Channel 3 in Memphis is reporting that Gruden has an amazing contract offer in his hands from the University of Tennessee, and the main sticking point of that offer would be Gruden owning a piece of the Cleveland Browns.

New Browns owner Jimmy Haslam III is a Tennessee grad, and supposedly one of the schools biggest boosters.

A reported potential hangup in the deal could be money Gruden is owed by Tampa Bay from his time there, and after they fired him in 2008.

Reports also are that the NFL is looking into the conflict of having ownership in one team, while still being compensated by another.

Another road block to such a deal, would be how it conflicts with NCAA by-laws.

The Vols want Gruden very badly according to reports.

Gruden does have ties to the university having been a graduate assistant at the school in 1986, and it’s also the place where he met his wife, a former Vols cheerleader.
