Georgia’s Aaron Murray Hasn’t Slept Since Bama’ Loss, Says Last Play Was a TD

Earlier this month, Georgia and Alabama played one of the most exciting SEC Championship games in recent memory.  The back and forth contest ended when the clock ran out on Aaron Murray and the Bulldogs at the Alabama 5-yard line, sealing a 32-28 Crimson Tide win that punched Bama’s ticket to the BCS National Championship Game.

Instead of going to Miami to face Notre Dame, UGA is now headed to Orlando where they will face Nebraska in the Capital One Bowl.  Per ESPN.com, Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray is still not over the Bulldogs’ missed opportunity against Alabama:

 ”I can’t sleep at night,” Murray said Wednesday in his first interview since the 32-28 loss to Alabama on Dec. 1. “I literally replay the entire game pretty much every night before I go to bed. It’s stressful. It’s a game that will probably haunt me the rest of my life, honestly.”

When asked about the last play of the game, a completion to WR Chris Conley off of a tipped pass that Murray had intended for WR Malcolm Mitchell in the endzone, Murray added:

“Oh, it’s a touchdown,” Murray said. “It’s a 50-50 ball, and the guy’s facing Malcolm and Malcolm’s supposed to just go up and catch the ball. It’s not like the guy’s facing me where he could have made a play on it. He would have had to, when Malcolm had his hands on the ball, had to strip it out of his hands. So it would have been up to Malcolm to make the play.”

Alabama linebacker C.J. Mosley got a hand on Murray’s pass and deflected the ball towards Conley, who instinctively caught the ball before being tackled inbounds as a helpless Murray looked on.

Aaron Murray has taken his share of criticism during his time in Athens, including having his house rolled with toilet paper after a loss to South Carolina earlier this year.  However, you could tell that Aaron Murray appreciated the moment in the SEC title game when CBS cameras caught him on the sidelines right before Georgia got the ball back for one last drive as trailed by four with less than a minute to go and no timeouts remaining.

Murray didn’t disappoint in his moment, he just ran out of time thanks to C.J. Mosley.
