We got a good slate of games this last week. With the conference seasons really firing up, we starting to separate the wheat from the chafe.
What did we learn?
Well, Maryland is not near a complete team.
Northwestern is a legitimate Big 10 contender, or were before they lost a tough one to the Buckeyes.
OU is a different team with Blake Bell at quarterback.
Georgia State's AD is a sadist who scheduled a vicious gauntlet for his young program.
These games did give us a bit of a shuffle in the rankings, so without further ado........

Gators Don’t Survive Hurricanes As In-State Rivalry Finale
Miami came into Sun Life Stadium Saturday morning with something to prove.
The hurricanes program had been in turmoil for some time and this win over arch rival Florida may give them the spark to bring them back to glory. Florida seemed to control the game having possession of the ball for over 38 minutes of the game, but turnovers told the story of this game.
Florida gave the ball to Miami 5 times to Miami’s single turnover. The Gators seemed to drive the ball without much resistance, but when they approached the red zone the pressure overcame Driskel and the Gators.
Miami may not have the same amount of talent as Florida possesses, but for what they lack they made up with heart. Miami battled throughout the game, when it seemed that Florida was about to take control and score Miami forced a turnover. Miami will try to build on this win when they host Savannah State in two weeks.

It was either going to happen at the end of this season or maybe the next.
It was unavoidable.
His recent injury may have expedited the process. But time puts its stamp on everyone. Even Ray Lewis.
In a report on the league’s website, it is being reported that Lewis announced that he was retiring during a team meeting on Wednesday.

Miami Hurricanes Impose Ban; Won’t go to ACC Title game.
Monday morning Miami announced that it will self-impose a postseason bowl ban for the second consecutive season.
The decision was made in response to an investigation which started last year. Blake James, UM’s interim athletic director Blake James informed the team of his decision. The people responsible for the final decision were school president Donna Shalala, the office of the general counsel and athletic department leaders. Miami released a statement:

A few thoughts following the FSU-Miami Game
1. Congratulations to Miami for breaking their losing streak to the Noles.
2. Jacory Harris and Christian Ponder are both better than advertised.
3. Both of these teams will be looking much more like the Noles and Canes are expected to by the end of the season. FSU's secondary showed their youth and will learn in a hurry in live game situations and Miami will get their starting DE's back and putting a pass rush to go with the rest of a solid, athletic young defense, will make them a power on that side of the ball.
4. The Jimbo Fisher system is going to work at FSU. There have been serious questions in Tallahassee about whether or not bringing him in and blowing up the offense was the right move, but their last two games (going back to last season's bowl game), the offense has been dynamic and explosive against 2 very good defensive teams. Jimbo's history gives us no reason to expect anything else as he continues to get his players in the system.
5. That game was not over yet.
6. Neither is this rivalry.
