Big Baby Says Jacque Vaughn Is Gandhi Compared To Doc Rivers

Glen “Big Baby” Davis has never been one to be the sharpest knife in the drawer, so you tend to take what he says with a grain of salt.

Davis is enjoying success starting at forward for the retooled Orlando Magic.

That succes,s plus teammates that will hold him less accountable, has led Davis to start running off at his mouth about his former team.

Many players when asked to compare Celtics coach Doc Rivers to Magic new coach Jacque Vaughn, would simply say an old school approach versus a new school approach.

Not Glen Davis, and when the Boston herald asked him to compare coaches, Davis went off the grid with his assessment.

Davis said Vaughn is more like “Gandhi.”

I kid you not.

“Different guys,” he said after (Sunday’s) pre-game shootaround. “Doc is more of a military-minded kind of guy, and Jacque is more of a Gandhi kind of guy. Soft but powerful.
“Doc’s more get the job done, and Jacque Vaughn is more the kind of guy who will ask you, Would you feel comfortable getting the job done?” said Davis. “I think that’s different with players. But in my system, I think I just feel better functioning in Jacque’s system. Doc wasn’t the kind of guy to pat you on your back and say, good job, man. He’s more like, OK, move on. In a way that’s positive, but some players are different. Jacque’s a different kind of guy. He pats you on your back – good job. That’s his motivation. But at the same time he still holds you accountable if you’re doing things wrong.”

They are simply two different guys.

Even as a player, Jacque Vaughn was soft-spoken, and went about his business the way he saw fit.

Davis simply should have noted that both coaches are supportive, Big Baby has just grown up some.
